China Makes Christmas For the Rest of the World
China is the world's biggest manufacturer of Christmas products. China exports nearly 2 billion US dollars worth of Christmas products per year with more than half going to the United States. Most of it comes from Shenzhen in South China's Guangdong province. There are over 3,000 factories in Shenzhen producing artificial Christmas trees. Christmas lights, ornaments and Christmas wreaths are also made here. These items are all made from plastic and metals. Shenzhen is on the coast about an hours drive from Hong Kong. Before 1985 most of these products were mass produced in Taiwan and Hong Kong where the labor was cheap and ports were easily accessible. Taiwan and Hong Kong were not under the strict communist rule of China. By 1985 Taiwan and Hong Kong had developed into huge exporters and their local labor costs had increased. They started looking for a place nearby to ship materials to for assembly by cheaper workers. At the same time China was moving away from communism and setting up special economic zones. These zones welcomed foreign investment and setup industrial parks to attract them. Consequently, Hong Kong and Taiwanese companies started producing Christmas products in Shenzhen. The growth in exports from Shenzhen over the last 20 years has been huge. About 80% of the factories are owned by Hong Kong companies and the other 20% by companies from Taiwan. Worker conditions in these factories are poor. Th ...

Promotional Bags: Your Company Details on Parade
The trick to a good promotion is to attach your company details to something useful. Now, there is "private useful" like the promotional toothbrush you use in the privacy of your own bathroom, and there is "public useful" that you use out there where everyone sees you inadvertently parading the promotion. This is where promotional bags come in. Few of us can get people to wear sandwich boards for us without paying them, but easily collocated promotional bags act in much the same way. Imagine the happy recipient of your promotional gift arriving at a jazz concert in the park toting your promotional wine bag. People can notice this, especially those juggling single wine bottles and sundry picnic equipment. There it sits on the blanket, sophisticated, serene and discreetly advertising your sophisticated and serene company. What a pleasure. Here's another promotional bag scenario: extremely cool young thing rollerblades past wearing a backpack with your details on it. All eyes follow the dexterous performer and no-one misses your logo on the bag with the contact details just large enough to see and remember. These are just some of hundreds of scenarios involving well-chosen promotional bags. The vast array of these promotional gifts can make it overwhelming to choose one particular design; there are so many kinds of bags to choose from. On the disposable side of the spectrum there is any number of paper and plastic promotional b ...

Personalized Water Bottles - 3 Reasons Why They're Great Corporate Gifts
Many things can be personalized. Many personalized things are a great promotional too. But some are greater. Personalized water bottles are among those that are greater. And, therefore, they make great corporate gifts too. It's true, personalized water bottles make great corporate gifts. But not all the time. Most marketers don't mess up when it comes to matching gift with gift recipient. Most marketers don't give a personalized bottle to someone who's going to hate it. But most marketers still mess up with corporate gifts, whether it's bottles, mugs or whatever. They mess up because they don't think of promotional products marketing, or all marketing, quite right. By that I mean, they create marketing campaigns that do not intend to touch the corporate gift recipient enough times. Some actually conceive campaigns where the recipient is touched only once, maybe twice. That's one of the issues. The second issue: they go for cheap bottles. Cheap and expensive are always in relation to the lifetime value of your prospect or customer. If you've determined that they're worth a personalized water bottle, don't give them a cheap one. Which is not to say that you're to pay a lot for each bottle, but there are inexpensive bottles and cheap ones. Stay with the inexpensive. Just so we're clear, inexpensive ones don't cost a lot but are quality products with quality personalization. The thi ...
